Role Overview:

As the Deputy Laboratory Manager with our client, you will be a pivotal figure in their laboratory operations, working alongside a passionate team of professionals. The role entails not only performing routine analytical testing on diverse biological samples but also taking on leadership responsibilities. Reporting to the Laboratory Manager, you’ll be responsible for managing a team of Biomedical Scientists and Medical Laboratory Assistants, while also stepping in for the Laboratory Manager as needed. This role directly contributes to maintaining the highest standards of laboratory practice in line with industry regulations, making a direct impact on patient care.

What You’ll Be Doing:

– Deputize for the Laboratory Manager when tasks are delegated or during periods of absence.
– Collaborate closely with the Lab Manager, Quality Manager, and VP Laboratory Operations to ensure compliance with guidelines and regulations while driving process improvements.
– Lead a team of BMSs, Lab Scientists, and MLAs, fostering their growth and development.
– Demonstrate exceptional proficiency in technical work related to clinical services.
– Supervise specimen preparation, dissection, and specialized techniques such as immunohistochemistry.
– Maintain proficiency in key techniques and drive the development of new methods.
– Act as a role model for the laboratory team, embodying best practices and values.
– Contribute to quality assessment schemes and manage memberships held by the department.
– Ensure accurate data entry, maintain equipment, and implement safety protocols.
– Prepare data for management presentations and participate in service improvement projects.
– Uphold compliance with regulations such as ISO 15189 and Human Tissue Act.

Qualifications and Skills:

– At least 5 years HCPC registration as a BMS, including Senior BMS experience (Essential).
– IBMS portfolio or equivalent (Essential).
– Masters degree in a biological discipline or equivalent (Essential).
– Qualification in LEAN/Six Sigma (Desirable).
– Line management and leadership experience (Essential).
– Expertise in histopathology laboratory techniques (Essential).
– Working knowledge of ISO 15189 and quality control procedures (Essential).
– Strong communication and training skills (Essential).
